This reserve was established in
1976. Its area is 175 sq. km. This reserve lies
in the flood plains of the Sapta-Koshi in the
mid-east Nepal, and is a favorite spot for bird
enthusiasts. The reserve/s vegetation includes
spreads of tall grass and patches of sissoo
forest. The last surviving herd of wild
buffaloes in Nepal is found here. Other species
include wild boar, hog deer, spotted deer and
blue bull called nil gai. A total of 280 species
of birds, including ducks, ibises, egrets,
herons and floricans, are recorded here. This
area is extremely important for migratory birds.
Other animal species include the crocodile, gharial and the Gangetic dolphins. Commercial
fishing is also an important activity here.

Koshi Tappu
After breakfast at the hotel transfer to the
Domestic Airport to connect flight to Biratnagar.
1 hour flight from Kathmandu to Biratnagar
Airport, then from the airport 1hour drive to
Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve Guest reception /
welcome briefing Lunch will be served at around

Whole day - Boat & vehicle ride - excursion of
Koshi river with packed lunch. We may see the
wild buffaloes along the sand banks and the rare
gangetic dolphins in the water.

Jhagad tribes. Dinner - barbeque

Biratnagar/ Kathmandu
Morning - free or an optional village
walk/bird-watching around the camp

1 hour drive from Koshi Tappu to Biratnagar
Airport and then 1 hour flight from Biratnagar
to Kathmandu. Arrive Kathmandu. Hotel Check in.
Lunch: 1300hrs-1400hrs
After Lunch half day sighseeing.
PM: Visit 2000 years old Buddhist shrine
Swyambhunath, situated on the top of the hill
west of the city the most popular and instantly
recognizable symbols of Nepal. The temple is
colloquially known as the “Monkey Temple”. There
are many small buildings and shrines down the
hillside behind Swayambhunath. Explore the
colorful Kathmandu Durbar Square- The Old Royal
Palace of Kathmandu, Temple of living goddess
Kumari, the Jagannath temple, 17th century
temple known for colorfully painted erotic
carvings, Kasthmandap temple a three story
temple built from a single tree in 12th century.
Overnight stay at the Hotel.
